Hi there! I’m Isabella, the creator of this site. My interest in how young children learn began years ago when I read John Holt’s How Children Fail and How Children Learn during my postgraduate studies in education. His ideas sparked a lifelong curiosity about how children develop skills, especially in their early years.
I taught my own children to read and write, and after retiring, I began helping a friend’s child. Word spread quickly, and before long, I was supporting several children with their learning. Watching their confidence grow gave me the idea to create this website – a place to share what I’ve learned and offer support to others.
Although this site is about children, it’s really for parents. Most parents want to help their children do well, but not everyone has the time, energy, or know-how to do that – especially when they’re working long hours or juggling life in a second language. Often, it’s not just the child who needs a bit of extra help, but the family that needs a bit more support. That’s where I hope this site can make a difference.
Now, as a granny, I look back with a clearer view of what worked and what didn’t when I was raising my own children. These days, I try to share not just teaching tips, but also the kind of perspective on being a parent or grandparent that only comes with time.
My goal is to offer clear, practical advice that helps both children and parents approach learning – and family life – with more confidence and less stress.
I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. Let’s enjoy life with our children and make learning a positive part of home life.
